The next Dr Who is going to be a gay black man.
The BBC are elated.

Yes- all that 'unveiling show' stuff was absolute cringe. Pretending that the world didn't already know. And why should we care about having a 30 min interview with the actor blowing smoke up the BBC and showrunners arses and going on about how honoured they are to have the gift and responsibility this character bestowed upon them.
If anything, just get the actor on the fucking One show the week before the series starts for an informal chat about it.

Couldn’t watch it now but was a regular viewer growing up into my teens, Sarah Jane Smith was probably the best reason for watching. Say no more.

It began taking itself too seriously at the end of the Matt Smith era, most notably the 'reveal' show the BBC had when they 'unveiled' Peter Capaldi, even though the world knew after bookies shut betting on him.
There's never a need for more than one companion, and Christopher Ecclestone was the best since its reboot, though David Tennant had the best scripts.

It became 'the Clara show with Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi'.
That's exactly it- and it was why the Capaldi Doctor was so shit. They made him basically a weak bumbling secondary character. I remember there being talk at the time that it was a swerve and Clara had actually been the Doctor all along.

Nurse Ratched 8:42 Tue Nov 2
Those were good and very dark. They had to cut some scenes from them as they were deemed too scary to broadcast in the family entertainment slot.
The last series of Torchwood (Children of Earth) showed where Who could have gone.

I despised Martha. She was such a drip. I've seen the actress in other things and she is dire.
I loved the double part story 'The Empty Child'
Also there was a very unusual episode that had the marvellous Marc Warren in it. It was a different sort of pace and The Doctor was barely in it. Not even Shirley Henderson could spoil it.

It's really not a lot to do with the actors - it's to do with the scripts. if you don't have a decent script in front of you it'll make any actor tear their hair out.

Russel T Davis is back in charge after the current series finishes so that is promising. Silence in the Library was excellent.

Silence in the Library. The girl who waited. ( Fit Amy and old wrinkly Amy) A Christmas Carol. With Katherine Jenkins .
All very good but again with Tennant or Smith.
It's now too PC, has too many companions, and needs a thorough overhaul or just be binned.

Re: Doctor Who

The decline is most obvious in the companions, who have become far too important.
Rose was OK, although I find Billie Piper extraordinarily irritating. Martha was pretty good, but was booted out far too soon for the appalling celebrity turn, Donna (Catherine Tate). Amy (sighs...) and Rory was a return to form, but Clara, fucking Clara... It became 'the Clara show with Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi'. As for the companions since her, they have all been mere cyphers, caricatures of various woke stereotypes. Poor Bradley Walsh. Matt Lucas is a cunt who probably doesn't know how shit he was.

Out of the new ones, David Tennant's (the best of the new doctors by a mile IMO- Capaldi could have been good but the writing was atrocious and they almost made him the secondary character) first two seasons were the best. There were some really great standalone stories and clever season arcs.
It all went to absolute shit after that with horrible cringeworthy celebrity cameos, stupid inexplicable plots that were trying to be overly 'clever' and didn't really make sense, weak writing, and some sort of weird focus on sex, sexuality, relationships mixed with schmaltzy teary eyed family crap which totally overshadowed what the show is meant to be- simple light hearted sci-fi/horror stories with a lot of tongue in cheek humour. There has been the odd good one off episode but mainly total garbage.

All those stories were fantastic.
But you've got to go back pre Capaldi for those ones.
Can't remember a decent one from Capaldi or Whittaker.
